Join Our Staff

Essais is always on the lookout for extra helping hands. Whether you’re applying for a semester-long internship position or simply want a brief taste of professional editorial experience, it’s never too late to get involved and make your mark on the journal. Read on to find out how you can become a part of our team.

Contributing Staff

All UVU students are welcome to join our contributing staff (i.e. “general staff”). Contributing staff members gain hands-on experience through every stage of the production process, including essay review/selection, content editing, copyediting, source checking, and typesetting. Those who participate in at least three (3) editing sessions have their names printed in the journal at the end of the semester.

This is an ideal position for those who want to get involved but may have tight schedules or other commitments that prevent them from joining as a lead editor. Many students begin as contributing staff in order to gain experience before applying to a main staff position.

At present, there is no limit to how many contributing staff members we accept, and there is no application or associated deadline.

Interested? Email us at uvuessais@gmail.com to be added to the contributing staff mailing list and get notified about upcoming Spring 2025 editing sessions.

Main Staff

The main staff of Essais is comprised of up to six (6) lead editors who work on the journal all semester and earn internship credit for doing so.

Working on the main staff is an excellent experience for anyone who wants to apply to graduate school, build a professional career as a writer or editor, engage further with questions broached in theory or upper-level literature courses, or simply invest in a collaborative experience and create something meaningful with other talented students.

Associate Editor(s) – 1 credit

Up to three (3) Associate Editors observe and assist the EIC, Managing, and Technical Editors, taking on responsibility as needed throughout the publication process. Joining as an Associate Editor is an excellent way to learn how the journal functions in order to prepare for a 3-credit position in a future semester.
